How To Get Licensed in Nebraska

1. Complete Pre-Licensing Education

Even though Nebraska no longer mandates pre-licensing education, completing a structured life & health insurance study course offers major benefits that can significantly improve your chances of passing the state exam.

 

2. Pass the Licensing Exam

  • Exam Provider: PSI
  • Format: Multiple-choice, computer-based
  • Separate or Combined Exams:
    • You can take Life and Health separately or as a combined exam
  • Passing Score: 70% or higher 

 

3. Get Fingerprinted For a Background Check

  • Fingerprinting is required for all resident applicants
  • Must be done through Nebraska’s authorized vendor (IdentoGO) 

 

4. Apply for Your License

  • Apply online through the NIPR | nipr.com
  • Pay the licensing application fee (around $50–$60 per line of authority)
  • Your application will be reviewed after your background check is complete

  • How long do I have access to my course?

    60 days. While most course providers only offer you 30 days to complete your course (with no extension option), our exam prep courses provide you with 60 days of access from the date of enrollment.

  • Are there any additional costs?

    No. The enrollment cost shown is a one-time enrollment fee, with no additional costs or fees (unless you choose the split-payment option that we offer for some courses).

  • What are the basic Nebraska licensing requirements?

    You must be 18 or older, reside in Nebraska, submit fingerprints, and pass the state exam.

  • How long does it take to get licensed?

    It usually takes 2–4 weeks, depending on how quickly you complete the course and pass the license exam.
