Life & Health Insurance License Study Courses

In Nevada, a Life & Health Insurance License is required to sell life insurance, health insurance, or both (and other lines too). The license gives you legal authorization to represent insurance companies, sell their products, or become an independent agent.

Key Steps & Requirements

Step 1. Pre-licensing Education

As of recent rules, *pre-licensing courses are not required by law in Nevada for many lines, but taking one significantly increases your chance of passing the exam. Most people take an online course to study for the exam.

Step 2. Schedule Your Licensing Exam

Exams are administered by Pearson VUE. You’ll need to register through their site. Exam fees vary depending on whether you're doing single line or multiple lines.

Step 3. Background Check / Fingerprinting

Nevada requires a criminal history background check, including digital fingerprinting. There is a fee for fingerprinting. You can schedule your fingerprints here.

Step 4. Submit License Application

After passing the exam and completing the background check, you apply through the state’s electronic system (Sircon or NIPR for Nevada).

Timeline

Here’s a rough idea of how long each part may take, assuming you follow the process efficiently:

Pre-licensing prep course: from a few days to a few weeks, depending on your schedule and how long you study each session.

Exam scheduling and taking: once you feel ready, you can schedule (subject to availability of test centers or online proctoring).

Background check / fingerprinting: may take a few days to a week.

Application review & license issuance: in many cases, once all requirements are met, license approval can take a few days. The exact time depends on state processing timeline.
