How To Get A Life and Health Insurance License in Utah

1. Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for a resident insurance license in Utah, you must: 

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Be a legal resident of Utah.
  • Pass the required licensing examination.
  • Submit to a fingerprint-based background check.

 

2. Prepare for the Exam

Before taking the license exam, it's essential to dedicate time to building the knowledge necessary to pass on your first attempt. An online exam prep course can equip you with the key information and skills needed to succeed.

3. Schedule and Pass the Exam

Register for the life and health insurance exam through Prometric, either online or by calling 888-226-8740. 

  • Exam fee: $44
  • Questions:150 scored questions
  • Minimum passing score: 70%
  • Format: Multiple choice

 

4. Fingerprints

After passing the exam, you'll need to get fingerprints at a Prometric test center using live scan technology. The fingerprinting fee is approximately $30 (depending on location).

 

5. Submit Your Application

Apply for your license through the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR). The application fee is $75. Ensure all information is accurate and complete.

 

6. Maintain Your License

To keep your license active, you'll need to complete 24 hours of continuing education (CE) every 2 years.
